Having joined the studio in 2021 after completing her Master of Architecture at UNSW, Kalpana has brought her wide range of experience in residential architecture having worked in both Sydney and the Southern Highlands for the last 7 years. As an Associate, Kalpana brings a strategic and efficient approach to the studio, ensuring the seamless execution of projects from conception to completion across all stages of the process. Kalpana’s strength lies in her appreciation for the beauty found in small details. From the curve of a wall to improve circulation and soften a space, to the choice of the finer materials that only a keen eye would discover. Kalpana sees each element as an opportunity to enhance the overall experience of a space, creating designs that people positively respond to. Kalpana strives to contribute to a world where thoughtful details and collaborative efforts elevate simple spaces to create something that is special and unique within each project. Kalpana’s passion for architecture is well reflected by her dedication to continuous learning. Staying in touch with design innovations and structural capabilities, integrating new ideas and details into each project, ensuring her work pushes the boundaries of conventional design.

Attention to Detail and Thoughtful Design

Kalpana has a deep appreciation for the way small details influence the overall experience of a space. She understands that even the subtlest design choices, such as the curve of a wall to improve circulation, the depth and texture of materials or the way natural light interacts with a surface, can have a profound impact on the way a space feels and functions. For her, these details are not isolated decisions but part of a holistic design approach, ensuring that every project is cohesive, considered and enduring.

Her ability to balance aesthetic refinement with practical functionality allows her to contribute to designs that not only look beautiful but enhance the daily lives of those who inhabit them. She is particularly interested in the tactile and sensory qualities of architecture, considering how materials, textures and light work together to create spaces that feel warm, inviting and timeless.

Collaboration and Communication

Collaboration is at the heart of Kalpana’s process. She values the insights of clients, consultants and colleagues, understanding that successful architecture is the result of integrating diverse perspectives into a cohesive whole. She approaches each project with an open mind and a problem-solving mindset, ensuring that different viewpoints contribute meaningfully to the design outcome.

She believes that clear communication is essential in architecture, whether it is translating a client’s vision into a built form, coordinating with consultants on technical aspects or working closely with builders to ensure that design integrity is upheld during construction. Her ability to listen, adapt and articulate ideas effectively helps create strong working relationships and successful project outcomes.

Commitment to Learning and Innovation

Kalpana is dedicated to ongoing learning and professional development, keeping up to date with new materials, construction techniques and sustainable design strategies. She is particularly interested in how small refinements and incremental improvements can enhance both the aesthetic and practical aspects of a space. This curiosity drives her to explore new ideas and innovative approaches, ensuring that her work remains relevant and forward-thinking.

A Holistic Approach to Architecture

At its core, Kalpana’s approach to architecture is about creating well-considered, functional spaces that respond to their context and the people who use them. Through a combination of thoughtful detailing, collaboration and a focus on practical outcomes, she aims to contribute to projects that are beautifully crafted, enduring and deeply connected to their surroundings.
